APR Tuning Products for the Volkswagen New Beetle
The Volkswagen New Beetle is a compact car introduced by Volkswagen in 1998, drawing heavily on the design cues of the original Beetle. Based on a Volkswagen Golf, the "retro" design proved to be more successful in some markets than in others. It is assembled at the VW Puebla factory in Mexico. The big contrast between the New Beetle and the Classic Beetle is that, like most cars, the New Beetle has the engine in the front and storage in the back.
Strong public reaction persuaded the company to move the car into production, and in 1998 Volkswagen launched the New Beetle, designed by J Mays and Freeman Thomas at the company's California design studio. The New Beetle is related to the original only in name and appearance (including the absence of a car emblem script with the exception of the VW logo): under the hood, it is a modern car in every way, based on the Volkswagen A platform (Mark 4 Volkswagen Golf).
Still, it carried many design features related to the old Beetle: separate wings, vestigial running boards, sloping headlamps and large round tail lights, as well as a high rounded roofline that provides enough headroom for tall drivers.
In the United States the engines were the 2.0 liter inline-4, for the base model, and the 1.8 liter turbo inline-4, for the Sport Model which included a sport suspension, and bigger wheels and tires.
For the 2006 model, the exterior was slightly redesigned with bigger bumpers and fitted with a 150hp 2.5L I5 20V base engine, as seen on the A5 Jetta and Rabbit.
The New Beetle, like many other Volkswagen models, is assembled currently in Mexico. Houston, TX is the point of entry to the United States for all these vehicles.
APR's sole mission is to engineer only the highest quality tuning solutions for Audi vehicles, ensuring the enthusiast the ultimate driving experience, while consistently providing the enthusiast the ultimate in customer care and support.
Because we are the best at what we do. There are several reasons to GO APR over other companies. First, we are the only VW aftermarket design firm in the US with engineers on staff. Second, we only tune VAG + Porsche vehicles. Third, we have completely reverse-engineered the entire Bosch Motronic system. We can safely say that we probably know the system better than anyone in the world (except Bosch, of course). Finally, we always strive to provide the best customer service and support possible.

Highlights of the APR R1 Diverter Valve Include: * Diaphragm-Based Valve
The APR R1 diverter valve was designed to be the ultimate solution to the problem of unreliable factory and aftermarket diverter valves and to be the leader in performance. Although most are of good design, factory diverter valves are built in a very conscious manner and the materials and overall life and reliability suffer. For the performance enthusiast, the diverter valve is an important component whose proper operation is paramount to optimal engine operation. Enter the R1: APR’s R1 diverter valve addresses all of the reliability problems of the factory-supplied diverter valves and aftermarket replacements and takes performance to the next level. The R1 is a diaphragm-based valve. A diaphragm is the best option for a diverter valve for several reasons. First off, a diaphragm has negligible friction. Piston-based valves have considerable friction from the piston, o-ring, and bore assembly. The lower friction R1 diaphragm equates to faster response and better overall performance. Secondly, diaphragms do not require the periodic greasing that piston-based valves do. Piston-based valves must be qreased periodically (usually every year or sooner), requiring removing the valve from the car, disassembling and reassembling the valve. The APR R1 was designed to be maintenance free for the life of the product. Thirdly, a diaphragm based valve will never have a stuck piston. Piston-based valves periodically incur stuck pistons (especially if the required maintenance schedules are not followed.) Due to the lack of a piston, the APR R1 solves this problem. The R1 is designed for optimal performance. The main body of the valve is investment cast in an aluminum alloy. By utilizing this casting process in lieu of a more conventional machining process, APR was able to optimize the internal geometry of the valve to provide the ultimate in flow performance. This geometry cannot be created utilizing conventional machining. As such, the APR R1 has much better flow characteristics than other diverter valves. Combined with the low friction diaphragm assembly, this equates to a valve that is truly a performance leader. The materials used in the R1 are standard setting. The diaphragm is created out of high temperature material and incorporates a Nomex fabric reinforcement layer for enhanced durability and a diaphragm that will never tear. The alloy main body is finish machined at APR and receives a multilayer corrosion resistant and cosmetic enhancing finish. All machining and final assembly takes place at APR headquarters in the United States for optimal quality control and consistency. |

The APR Motorsport Intake Manifold is a high flow cast aluminum replacement intake manifold for any transverse 1.8T. Features of the manifold include larger runners with smoother transitions, a large barrel designed to reduce turbo lag, pressed and bead rolled vacuum fittings, OEM injector seats, and a 76mm throttle body. The APR Motorsport Intake Manifold is available in either a black powdercoated finish or an unfinished casting for polishing or custom painting. It is also available with or without the throttle body, making the Intake Manifold flexible for both application and styling. Applying the Intake Manifold to an APR Stage III or III+ will produce power levels in excess of the stock motor internals abilities and upgraded connecting rods are recommended. Expected gains when applied to an APR Stage III or III+ are 40-50hp, 20-30ft-lbs and reduced turbo lag of approximately 100-200 rpm’s. |
