The first generation allroad shares its platform with the second generation "C5" Audi A6 mid-size car / executive car and its rear end is almost identical to the A6 Avant, the station wagon version.

The main differences are an advanced air suspension system, larger wheels with all-terrain tires and flared and unpainted bumpers, giving it a distinct appearance and more overall flexibility over varying terrain. Audi's quattro® system is standard equipment for all versions.

It is believed that Audi introduced the allroad due to the success of the Subaru Outback, however on a larger platform and with a larger, more powerful engine.

All APR chip upgrades use encryption, which serve several purposes. Mainly, it keeps prying eyes out of our software and prevents lesser companies from copying the chip and degrading the product. Also, all APR software is undetectable to a dealers VAG diagnostic tool.

EMCS is available for this car. EMCS is APR's revolutionary patent pending Enhanced Modular Chipping System. EMCS is an industry leading technology that brings many new features to the automotive enthusiast. This technology was developed exclusively by Audi Performance & Racing, LLC and demonstrates APR's continued commitment to lead the industry with the most technologically advanced products available.

Want chipped mode? Want to be able to switch back to your stock settings? Want a race mode to run 100 octane fuel at the track? How about a valet mode that limits power? EMCS is the lone technology on the market that can give you all of these options. No changing of the chip or ECU is required. These programs are available at the touch of a button.

APR has taken your cruise control buttons and utilized them for this function. Your cruise control will continue to function as normal, but will give you the ability to scroll through the programs you have purchased on your APR chipped ECU. The procedure is simple and involves only two steps.

Step 1: Press and hold the "set" button on your cruise control. After approximately five seconds, the "check engine" light on your dash will begin to blink once per second. This will tell you that you are activating program one. This blinking sequence will continue for approximately five seconds.

After this five second interval, the "check engine" light will begin blinking twice per second. This will indicate that you have activated the second program. This process is continued to access any remaining programs you may have purchased. (three blinks = program three, four blinks = program four).

Step 2: Once you have activated the desired program, simply release the "set" button. The "check engine" light will go off, and you will be locked in that program until you change it.

It's that simple.

APR's EMCS is a truly modular system that allows for future enhancements and features to be added as they are developed without the need for additional hardware. EMCS makes the following advanced features possible:

FlipSwitch
Enables you to swap between two or more engine programs on-the-fly using the cruise control stalk. All cars have stock and standard chipped program versions available. Valet, race-gas, and other specialty programs are available for some models.

Fault Code Erase/Throttle Body Alignment (FCE/TBA)
Fault Code Erase allows you to erase and reset engine related trouble codes without having to use a specialty tool. Throttle Body Alignment allows you to manually perform throttle-body adaptation.

Security Lockout
Prevents unauthorized personnel from accessing EMCS functions. The user may select any 1 to 4 digit security code. The security code is entered using the cruise control buttons.

User Reprogramming and Reconfiguration
Gives the user the ability to reprogram their ECU with the latest software updates and to reconfigure their ECU for different preferences or features. This function requires the optional programming adaptor.

The APR R1 diverter valve was designed to be the ultimate solution to the problem of unreliable factory and aftermarket diverter valves and to be the leader in performance. Although most are of good design, factory diverter valves are built in a very conscious manner and the materials and overall life and reliability suffer. For the performance enthusiast, the diverter valve is an important component whose proper operation is paramount to optimal engine operation.

Enter the R1: APR�s R1 diverter valve addresses all of the reliability problems of the factory-supplied diverter valves and aftermarket replacements and takes performance to the next level. The R1 is a diaphragm-based valve. A diaphragm is the best option for a diverter valve for several reasons. First off, a diaphragm has negligible friction. Piston-based valves have considerable friction from the piston, o-ring, and bore assembly. The lower friction R1 diaphragm equates to faster response and better overall performance. Secondly, diaphragms do not require the periodic greasing that piston-based valves do. Piston-based valves must be qreased periodically (usually every year or sooner), requiring removing the valve from the car, disassembling and reassembling the valve. The APR R1 was designed to be maintenance free for the life of the product. Thirdly, a diaphragm based valve will never have a stuck piston. Piston-based valves periodically incur stuck pistons (especially if the required maintenance schedules are not followed.) Due to the lack of a piston, the APR R1 solves this problem.

The R1 is designed for optimal performance. The main body of the valve is investment cast in an aluminum alloy. By utilizing this casting process in lieu of a more conventional machining process, APR was able to optimize the internal geometry of the valve to provide the ultimate in flow performance. This geometry cannot be created utilizing conventional machining. As such, the APR R1 has much better flow characteristics than other diverter valves. Combined with the low friction diaphragm assembly, this equates to a valve that is truly a performance leader.

The materials used in the R1 are standard setting. The diaphragm is created out of high temperature material and incorporates a Nomex fabric reinforcement layer for enhanced durability and a diaphragm that will never tear. The alloy main body is finish machined at APR and receives a multilayer corrosion resistant and cosmetic enhancing finish. All machining and final assembly takes place at APR headquarters in the United States for optimal quality control and consistency.

Improved cooling leads to smoother and a more consistent power delivery. The APR intercooler upgrade for the S4 is a combination of RS-4 intercoolers and APR designed and developed peripheral parts. The RS-4 intercoolers provide cooling superior to that of the stock S4 intercoolers. Besides being larger, they offer better build quality utilizing aluminum end tanks that are welded to the radiator cores. However, the highlight of the kit is the APR custom designed silicon hoses.

Unrivaled Fit and Finish

The hoses included in the kit are true custom hoses. They are not a combination of off-the-shelf or modified parts. Instead, they are specifically designed for optimized flow by minimizing straight sections and maintaining a maximum radius throughout. These are true one-piece silicon hoses made from our own tooling created in house. These hoses, along with the RS-4 cores, insure the most thoroughly developed intercooler upgrade option on the market. You won�t find this level of refinement in any other kit.

The Kit

The kit consists of two primary parts: one, the intercoolers themselves, and two, the hose kit and associated hardware. The hose kit is made up of two turbo to intercooler hoses, two intercooler to bi-pipe hoses, eight clamps, the horn re-location bracket, and cap screws and lock nuts. Power, Drivability, Reliability: these three words sum up our Audi 2.7T K04 Stage III kit. APR's unique approach to product development brings together a product with the level of refinement that this car deserves.

APR has a history of developing high-quality turbocharger upgrade kits. Our 2.7T Stage III upgrade system continues this tradition. This product uses RS4 components, APR-designed components, and of course, APR-engineered engine management software calibrations.

This ultimate turbo system upgrade is now available for the 2.7T cars. This kit is capable of 447 horsepower and 467 foot-pounds of torque at the flywheel on 93 octane gas, while retaining stock-like drivability. The highlights of the kit include the following:

Rarely in the world of luxury sport sedans have two cars been so complete as the S4 and A6 2.7T. While Audi emphasized the luxury personality of the cars, APR has now helped emphasize the sport personality of these amazing cars.

Audi endowed the S4 and A6 2.7T with a respectable platform to build upon. The 250 horsepower found in the 2.7L twin-turbo V-6 is just the beginning of this engine's potential. With the addition of several key components and proper tuning, the potential is realized. The selection and development of these components is crucial in maintaining the integrity of the car.

APR has the largest development staff in the Audi aftermarket and we put them to work in choosing the proper components in developing this system. The turbochargers for this kit are larger-than-stock K04 units. These turbochargers have proven to be much more reliable than the stock 2.7T K03 turbochargers (this kit is an excellent choice for anyone needing to replace their stock turbochargers, by the way). The extra flow and pressure capacity of these turbochargers allow boost pressures of approximately 20psi to be run at full throttle all the way up to high engine speeds.

The K04 turbochargers bolt up perfectly to the stock manifold. We chose to retain the stock manifold design for several reasons. The stock manifold has a small internal volume for quick spool-up and a cleverly designed dual-wall construction. The dual-wall construction keeps heat in the exhaust gases where it is needed. This increases the amount of energy available to the turbocharger turbine to spool the turbo (reduced lag/lower boost onset) and also reduces the heat transmitted to other components (an important consideration given the tight constraints). A conventional cast manifold would transmit too much heat to the surrounding components after shut down. A fabricated manifold would adversely affect lag and would transmit too much heat during operation. The factory decided to use the S4 exhaust manifolds in the RS4 and we chose to do the same for this kit.

For fueling, we opted for larger fuel injectors and the increased flow capacity fuel pump used in the RS4. With larger turbochargers and the engine running higher boost pressures, these components were necessary to meet the fueling needs of the engine and retain an adequate safety margin. The stock and upgraded fuel components were thoroughly tested on our fuel component test equipment to determine flow capacities. Although the stock components clearly were not up to the task, the components we chose to use fit our requirements perfectly.

In order to accurately measure the quantity of air entering the engine, it is vital that the air metering system be well designed and precisely manufactured. It is also very important that the mass air flow sensor be precisely mounted in a quality sensor housing and that the system be well thought out (see our Transverse 1.8T Stage III MAF design for more information on this). A custom design was not necessary for the 2.7T Stage III kit as we found a quality factory alternative for increased airflow capacity.

The kit is available with or without increased capacity intercoolers. For maximum performance (especially in hotter climates) we recommend replacing the intercoolers with larger units. Although an intercooler will not directly add much peak horsepower, it will allow the engine to operate as it would when the outside temperature is lower. This will give you more usable horsepower while driving the vehicle.

Dynamometer Developed and Proven on the Street/Track

At APR, we have invested in the equipment, facilities, and personnel to do the job right. These investments can be experienced in the overall quality of our product. For this upgrade system, we made extensive use of our four-wheel drive chassis dynamometer. This vital tool enabled us to put the engine through a very wide assortment of operating conditions. Used in conjunction with our proprietary datalogging tools, we have optimized the engine control parameters for all conditions. We have also programmed in safety factors for extreme conditions to protect your investment.

Laboratory testing and development go a long way in developing a premium product. However, no development cycle is complete without extensive real life use tests. What better way to test a system than to drive it 3000 miles at high speeds? We put one of our S4 Stage III vehicles to this very test and entered it into the 2002 Gumball 3000. This event took the car from New York, New York to Los Angeles, California in five days. The car handled the trip without a hiccup, a testament to the performance and reliability of the kit.

The APR allroad 2.7T Exhaust is a stainless steel, mandrel bent, cat-back exhaust. APR's exhaust begins after the factory catalytic converters with dual 2.5" pipes, and continues back to the innovative center muffler. From there, it splits to two separate mufflers placed in the factory location. The APR exhaust really helps to awaken the Audi 2.7T, but keeps the stateliness that it deserves. With TIG welding, fully stainless construction, and CNC'ed hangers, you will not find a higher quality system on the market.
